Jane Dowling - Easy Steps to Exercise
New Year - New You? Didn’t quite happen?
If you have been feeling guilty that you haven’t joined the gym, haven’t started running, or even tried out the new Zumba class...Don’t beat yourself up!
By setting yourself unrealistic goals it is very demoralising and therefore makes it easier to let yourself down. This could lead to a negative attitude.
So instead, set yourself small realistic but achievable goals.
“This week I will walk either too or from work one day”
“This week I will get off the tube or bus one stop early and walk the rest of the way”
“I will ditch the lift at work and use the stairs”
This way you will have upped your activity levels by something that is easy to incorporate into your daily lifestyle.
We often dismiss walking as a form of exercise but walking briskly for 30 minutes five days a week will help slim you down and make a real difference to how you feel. For instance, covering a mile can burn 100 calories! Strolling around a shopping centre for an hour can burn up to 200 calories!
Who said exercise was boring?!
